Today we took our first proper trip around Bangalore and hit a few shopping places. Kam organised a bus to take us around.
First up was MG road. My god the traffic. Crossing the road is a major task of danger and excitement. The green man doesn't seem to mean anything. Ben and I were a wee bit late returning to the bus - we got trapped by a pashmere salesman - and just after we'd made the arduous and stressful road crossing the bus took off. A quick phone call and we were told they were coming back on the other side so we had to cross back. I got trapped in the middle for a bit, foolishly thinking I could cross when the green man appeared. The cars just started moving though and I had to run back to the saftey of the middle. I got there eventually though.
Next up was a mall. Very modern and not too different from a mall in the UK. There was even a Mark & Spencers. Ewan and I got stuck in a queue in the Indian equivelent of boots - some guy just barged infront of us in the queue as if we weren't even there.
The most stressful was commercial road. A very busy and bustling street which merges decrepit looking building and very bad road surfaces with new boutique shops. You are constantly attacked buy street sellers and beggars. A wee boy attached him self to my t-shirt for 5 minutes trying to get into my pocket. My stomach was acting up a bit then, it was mid day so really hot, very dusty and with all the other stuff happening (beggars, sellers, ducking and weaving through the traffic) I just felt horrible. To make things worse the bus driver interpreted our 3.15 as 3.50 so we were huddled on the corner of one of the busiest streets in Bangalore for 35 minutes.
Next up was Sigma Mall, another nice new modern place. I was feeling better then and I managed to get a couple of nice ethnic shirts for the wedding. I don't need to wear my suit anymore! Most of us hit the McDonalds which has a rather interesting menu. There's a photo on my flickr page if you can find it.
After that it was back to Kam's where there were loads more people than the previous day. Much drink and food was had. I finally got back to the hotel at around 12 where the Vodka and Red Bull combo I'd been drinking through the night came back to haunt me.
