I can count the amount of decent musical releases thus far this year on one hand (Security Screenings by Prefuse 73, Orchestra Of Bubbles of Bubbles by Ellen Alien & Apparat and Kerrier District 2 by Luke Vibert finger counting fans) so it was lovely noise to my ears when Warp released not one but two excellent albums this month.
First up was Body Riddle by Chris Clark. It seems like his musical style has really matured. I had it on repeat for the last week and I didn't get tired of it. Roulette Thrift Run in particular had been drilled into my brain. It also came with a 3" CD called Thottle Clarance which is a bit more in the Clarance Park vein which I've also been enjoying greatly (I wonder if the last track was inspired by the menu screen music in Katamari Damacy?)
The second release is Hello Everything by Squarepusher. Now Squarepusher is one of my all time favourite artists but I must say that I haven't been that impressed by his last couple of releases. Do You Know Squarepusher had a couple of great tracks but the rest was a bit rubbish. There were parts of Ultravisitor that I liked but I had to really struggle to find them. Thankfully Hello Everything is a return to form. It appears that Mr Jenkinson as made an album for Squarepusher fans instead of whatever strange direction he was heading with Ultravisitor and many of the tracks envoke memories of his earlier work. I could do without Vacuum Garden and Orient Orange but I'll live with them as the rest is so good.
Thar be no comments yet matey. Insert words to get the pirate treasure. Yarr!
